I figure I’d post an early edition of this weekend’s events because I honestly don’t see much going on today, as both Kelly and I are sick as shit. The weather here has been pretty flaky as of late, so I’m guessing that doesn’t help much.
Anyways, Friday we headed out to the Grand Opening of The Oasis. The Oasis is a brand new teen center in Grayslake, and has been a collaborative effort that Greg has been involved in for several years. Ben and I have been working on developing their website for the past several months, and I’m pretty happy with how it came out (let’s just hope it stays updated frequently). The Grand Opening was seemingly a big success… lot of people there and everyone looked to be enjoying themselves.
Saturday, when not sitting in traffic or driving in rain, was spent perusing records at the CHIRP Record Fair. The fair was a bit smaller this year, and they seemed to have scaled down the extra-curricular events like Guitar Hero and DDR (but the crappy indie bands and 40-year-old obnoxious record nerds were ever present). Between the fair, a quick trip to Metal Haven, and the mail yesterday, I ended up with quite a haul…
- Death - Scream Bloody Gore
- Death - The Sound of Perseverance
- Death - Individual Thought Patterns
- Killing Joke - Pandemonium
- Meshuggah - Obzen
- Prong - Rude Awakening
- Suicidal Tendencies - Controlled By Hatred/Feel Like Shit… Deja Vu
- Anthrax - I’m the Man
- DJ Shadow - Endtroducing…
- Trouble - The Skull
- Die Kreuzen - Gone Away EP
- The Cure - Pornography
- Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill
- The Mushuganas - S/T
Damn… that IS quite a haul. Guess I didn’t realize it until i had to type it all in.
The record fair was followed by a trip to Kuma’s Corner (I think that this point, no trip to the city will be complete without a trip to Kuma’s). I was feeling adventurous, so i opted for the PLAGUE BRINGER (Roasted Garlic Mayo, Tortilla Strips, Chicago CO-OP hot sauce, Fresh Garlic, Pepper Jack, Sliced JalapeƱos). Much like the actual Plague Bringer, it ruled. Kelly tried out the “Make Your Own Mac & Cheese” (w/ Bacon & Corn) and was also very pleased with the results. I believe her quote was something to the effect of, “this is enough for 4 meals.” Yum.
The rest of the day was spent sitting in more traffic, running errands and vegging out, trying to kick these colds. I have a feeling today will be more of the same (though hopefully there will be a bit more of this and this).
Don’t forget… next weekend!
