Well… I spent New Years Day in style… bummed around watching a crapload of 30 Rock episodes (Kelly and I are a little late to the party with this show, but after seeing most of season 1, I’m quite enjoying it), and then off to Double Door for the 2nd of a two-night stand with Dianogah, The Life and Times and Hum. As you may or may not know, Hum hasn’t played much the past eight years, so this was a pretty big treat for me and a few friends.
I know ahead of time the show was sold out, and I’d swear I’ve been to a few sold out shows at DD before, but this show was SOLD the fuck OUT. Jam-packed, butts to nuts, sold out (rightfully so, I suppose, but still…). Anyways, I’d never seen Dianogah before, though apparently they’ve been around for almost 14 years. Good stuff (as I’m a sucker for bands with two bass players) though I definitely leaned towards the more aggressive 90s-sounding material.
TLAT were great as usual, though the sound was a little over-driven for my tastes. If you haven’t seen/heard them before, I’d highly recommend. Their new album Tragic Boogie comes out in April, and is already guaranteed to be in my top 3 of the year.
Hum hit the stage after and obnoxiously long set change, and simply destroyed the place. I haven’t seen them since the ELVi played a show with them back in March of 98, an they sounded as good or better than before. Extremely tight and crushingly heavy. Simply an amazing set. Isle of the Cheetah, The Pod & Iron Clad Lou were the first three songs, and they all were spot on. Despite the bulging crowds and my sore feet, an amazing show through and through.
Well… first post of the new year. Hopefully many more to come. I’m going to make a viable attempt to keep this blog, and a few other projects on the top of my priority list this year. If not… feel free to kick my ass.
I’m going to be starting the year off right by heading to the Hum / Life and Times show this evening. I’m certain I don’t have to tell you how much ass it will kick, but on a scale of 1 to 10, this show goes to 11.
Anyways, Happy New Year to all. Here’s to hoping it’s a good one.
Well… another Chicago football season has come and gone. I’m a little bummed the Bears couldn’t pull it together, but that’s been the story of most of the season. Honestly, the way they’ve been playing the last few weeks, I doubt they’d have made it too far anyways. Here’s to hoping for some improvements next year (especially in the offensive and defensive coordinator positions). Glad to hear the Eagles took out Dallas though. Something to be excited about I suppose.
Anyways… I’m off work this coming week, so a few projects to get underway… painting my bathroom, working on finishing up this blog and starting my next one. Also a trip to kumas and metal haven are in order.
Well, as you can probably tell, I’ve been working on this site quite a bit this weekend. I’m still pretty much a noob when it comes to coding, so bear with me as I continue to make adjustments, and please let me know if you run into something stupid or fucked up.
I really like the flexibility of wordpress, but I’m still trying to understand what all this shit means and how it works. Definitely good practice for my next project though… that’s when shit’s gonna get tough.
A few more loose ends to tie up here (page content anyone?) and I’ll probably “turn it live”. I’m sure the 3 of you who read this are super stoked!
ok… i’ve got wordpress 2.7 up and running, and i’m going to finally make an effort to redesign and start using this thing. wish me luck and bear with me through the mess.
